St.Pete, Fla. – We all have done it. Driving along in the car, listening to some music, your mind starts to wonder, ideas start to flow. Some are good, some are bad, and some are just straight up cray cray. For Chad Mize, owner of MIZE Gallery, the concept of ‘Sup Cones’ might never had been, if it wasn’t for that car ride.
The Car Ride
Cruising around the streets of Clearwater, Florida he and local DJ Lady D where brainstorming. Here is how Mize explained it to Creative Loafing Arielle Stevenson back in 2013:
“We were talking about opening a hip-hop ice cream shop,” Mize says, sipping his chocolate peanut butter milkshake at the Dairy Inn. “It’d be Sup Cones, and we’d have flavors like Butter PeKanye or the Lil’ Kim — served in a pasty.”
That idea turned into ‘Sup Cones’, which had 36 different artists or “flavors,” which included the works of BASK, the Vitale Brothers, and Frank Strunk III.
‘Sup Cones 2’
This year MIZE Gallery is cooling down St.Pete with a sequel, ‘Sup Cones 2’. The gallery will be filled with art by 70 local & national artists who will create works that fuse hip hop and ice cream! “Yeah Boy”!!!!
